"The world as it was once known, burns. In its wake...death breeds. All that is left - survival, even in death...grasping for what was, what can no longer be. Nothing makes sense anymore. Maybe one day it will" (TD Russell - The Dead Wake).

History
The Dead Wake was originally conceived pre-Covid as a full-scale series production where characters would be developed over time, but due to the global lockdown of 2020, the film was born as a proof of concept short, primarily to keep interest in the series production alive while the industry was dark.

Deciding to forge ahead alone, series creator TD Russell Produced and Directed the Film and with a hiring freeze in place, was forced to single-handedly, tackle all aspects of the production, including: cinematography, lighting, set design, sound and visual effects, editing as well as playing the three key roles in the film.

When asked if he would do it all over again, he said; "No! probably not. These were unforeseen circumstances. Film Making is a collaborative art, which is part of the fun. Going it alone, although a learning experience for sure, is just not the same...too many compromises. trying to move a camera in a way that enhances the story while simultaneously being in front of it...not an easy task. not to mention, without a cast, developing characters becomes impossible".

Filmed entirely on location in NYC, The Dead Wake (Film) was completed in 2020 in its current form while the industry remained in lock-down.
While much of the industry awaits a move back to normalcy, pre-production planning for the series spin-off has begun.
The widespread release of the film short has been stalled pending current production plans for the series.

The music video for the film's (and upcoming series) title song: "Welcome Home", by Soul Rash was recently released on Vimeo (2021) (see the media link above).
